I’m in the coldest inhabited place on Earth, at the coldest time of the year. This is Oymyakon in Russia. Just to stay alive, I’m wearing more than 20 layers of clothing, weighing nearly 14 kilos. Stepping outside from a warm  30°C home means facing a temperature drop of over 100 degrees. That’s why I’m also wearing gloves, boots, pants, and a coat, all made from reindeer fur. And even that’s not enough. And now, I’m about to show you what life is like when simply going outside becomes a battle for survival.

Welcome to CECOT, the world’s largest prison by capacity in El Salvador which was constructed to imprison the worst of the worst.

Those who enter this prison are destined to never leave here. This is the world’s strictest and largest mega prison. It has a capacity of 40,000. 
Built in 2022, this massive prison is made up of eight separate modules spread over 410 acres of land. Each pair of modules is enclosed by two separate 3-meter-high walls with razor wire. The entire facility is surrounded by a towering 9-meter-high wall with a 3-meter-high electric fence carrying 15,000 volts. Nineteen watchtowers are ensuring nothing escapes notice. The entire design doesn’t just prevent escape, it erases the very idea of it.

Also, I conducted an exclusive interview with one of the inmates, who is 41 years old.  In this interview, he reveals what life inside CECOT is really like.

Imagine a village where temperatures drop as low as -71°C, -96°F. Here, spending just a few extra minutes outside can lead to frostbite, the loss of a limb, or even end of life.

I’m in the coldest inhabited place on Earth, at the coldest time of the year. This is Oymyakon. Just to stay alive, I’m wearing more than 20 layers of clothing, weighing nearly 14 kilos. Stepping outside from a warm 30°C home means facing a temperature drop of over 100 degrees. That’s why I’m also wearing gloves, boots, pants, and a coat, all made from reindeer fur. And even that’s not enough. And now, I’m about to show you what life is like when simply going outside becomes a battle for survival.

The cold doesn't just affect people and wild animals. It stops everything from functioning.  Phones don’t work properly and often shut down. Cars left outside freeze in just a few hours. Since the ground is always frozen, no fruits or vegetables can grow here.

We boarded a plane in Moscow, flying east for seven hours to Yakutsk. From there, we covered an 18 hour, 900 kilometer road trip. When we stepped out of the car, it felt like we were on another planet. The hairs in our nose were frozen, and we felt them prick with every breath. The dry air makes us cough uncontrollably.  

Oymyakon is home to around 800 people, spread across 1.5 square kilometers. Seeing anyone else outside is almost impossible, the village feels like it has been abandoned.

The Coldest Village on Earth: Oymyakon (-71°C, -96°F)

The Hadza, the most primitive tribe living on earth. They are hunter gatherers just like our ancestors were thousands of years ago. 

Deep into the wild savannah, where uncertainty awaits behind every bush, they chase rock hyraxes, antelopes and baboons. 

The Hadza tribe has been living near Lake Eyasi in Northern Tanzania for over 50,000 years and only made first contact with the modern world around 150 years ago.

They speak Hadzane, a unique language with clicks. 

For the next 3 days, I’ll be a part of their tribe and witness their way of life.

The mad honey is produced by apis laboriosa, the largest honey bee on earth. Being 3 centimeters tall, this species is twice as large as the average worker honey bee and has long stingers that can easily penetrate clothing.

If there’s anything more exciting than mad honey itself, it’s surely the way of harvesting it.

Grayanotoxins come from the nectar of rhododendron flowers that bloom in the Himalayas, and it takes about 4 million flower visits for bees to make just 1 kilogram of honey. An average worker bee produces only 1/20th of a tablespoon of honey in its entire lifetime.

This honey doesn't have an antidote; most of the time, the body can tolerate it, but there are rare cases where it has caused heart failure. Before even considering tasting it, it's best to stick to your doctor’s recommendations.

This honey isn’t easy to come by. It requires skilled and brave individuals to harvest it from cliffside hives. The Gurung tribe preserves a rich cultural legacy.

Son Doong, the largest cave on our planet. This cave is so massive that it has a completely self-sustaining ecosystem with its own climate conditions. Hundreds of meters underground, the clouds you're used to seeing in the sky form inside this cave. 

Son Doong even has an untouched prehistoric rainforest hidden far below the surface and a vast underground river. From transparent fish to colorful monkeys, over 250 endemic plant and animal species live in this underground world. Seven new animal species were recently discovered here and are unique to this place. Stretching 9 kilometers in length, this cave holds 38.5 million cubic meters of space. And its passages are so enormous that a 40-story skyscraper could fit inside and its giant stalagmites are rising like the towers of ancient cities. Walking inside, it’s impossible not to feel as small as a tiny bug. Son Doong even contains phytokarst rocks, which move towards the sun like semi-living organisms. Rare cave pearls and many other unique formations are also found here.

For 3 million years since its formation, the world had no idea about this cave's existence until it was fully explored in 2009 in Vietnam. Now, it’s time for you to see the largest cave on earth.

Journey to the Center of the Earth (It Took 8 Days, I Lost 10kg)

Ruhi Cenet is in Nauru, the least visited country in the world. Located in the middle of the vast waters of the Pacific Ocean and appearing just as a tiny dot on the map, it’s the smallest independent republic. Nauru is the most inaccessible country. Hardly 200 people make their way to this country each year. This is the least visited country in the world, even the closest countries are thousands of kilometers away from here.

Until recently, the locals on this isolated island had so much wealth that they didn't even know what to do with it. Once rich in phosphate deposits in 1975, Nauru became the country with the highest GDP per capita in the World.

Today, however, in these destroyed lands where no fruits and vegetables can grow, processed and fatty foods have become the norm. Nauru is recognized by the World Obesity Federation as the world's most obese country, with around 60% of its citizens are obese. The World Health Organisation also reports that Nauru has the highest cigarette consumption rate in the world.

You might have heard that Minnesota, Michigan or North Dakota are very cold in the Winter. But Yakutsk is a whole different story. This is not Alaska too.

But they should be aware of blizzards, snow storms and heavy rains.
Winter camping is hard here, even harder than the cold weather of Ontario, Canada.
A night camping in the middle of a blizzard is no joke, so does ice camping. Luckily there are a lot of fish to catch in extreme cold temperatures.

Flights from Los Angeles to Yakutsk is about 30 hours and a one way ticket costs around 1000 American Dollars. There were no flights from New York City in the Winter. Fortunately, hotel fares were cheap and affordable in Siberia.

La Rinconada, the closest inhabited place to the sky on Earth, where people are living above the clouds. Life on the highest habitable altitude is tough.

At this extreme altitude of 5,100 meters, the atmosphere significantly thins and the locals are living with only  50% of the usual oxygen levels. Their bodies have evolved to produce two times more blood cells than ours. On this barren land, not even a single tree can survive because of the low air pressure. 

This town in the Peruvian Andes is even 300 meters higher than Mont Blanc, the highest peak in the Alps of Europe. 
 
Far from the modern world, it is a place where crime and danger are always nearby.  People come to these harsh lands for only one reason: gold. About 50,000 people have settled here, among piles of trash, all dreaming of wealth.

Visiting the Closest Town to Space (Life with 50% less oxygen)

Santa Cruz del Islote has an area of just one percent of a square kilometer in size where 816 people squeeze their entire lives. 
The island is so full that a guy does his daily workout routine near a dog feces and chaotic life here creates new adaptations.

Since we arrived on the island, we’ve been constantly encountering people no matter where we turn. 
People come out from every corner.
It’s impossible to be alone on these crowded streets. 

Each house here has dozens of people living together in tiny rooms. 

Ruhi: How many people live in this room?
Woman: About ten.   

This is an average room of an average house, you will be shocked when you see how other people live.
But these people have a much bigger problem than these houses which makes life so extremely terrible here.

Underneath Las Vegas, there are approximately 200 miles of tunnels, wastewater networks, unused service routes, and abandoned mineshafts. These tunnels, which were once constructed as the city's infrastructure, have become a hidden world for the tunnel people.

There are some roads in life that shape people’s lives but this road became an end for many lives.
After passing from Islamabad, capital city of Pakistan by a long car trip, I reached to Gilgit-Baltistan region, I hopped on a jeep and passed through mountains, then I trekked from there for 30 minutes, ride on a horseback for almost 2 hours and finally reached Fairy Meadows after 24 hours.

Hong Kong’s coffin homes are the world’s smallest apartments. These apartments get as small as 16 square feet or 1.5 square meters. Inside these cabins, it’s impossible to stand up or even stretch your arms. Most coffin homes aren’t even wider than the resident’s shoulders or longer than the resident’s body. And despite this, they’re utilized as a living room, a kitchen, and a bedroom at the same time—within the same space. Around 200,000 people have no choice but to live in these homes in Hong Kong, which has had the world’s most expensive housing market for 14 years.

In this documentary, we’ll also spend a full day with a resident who has lived in a coffin home for 16 years.

The World’s Smallest Apartments: 16 ft² Coffin Homes in Hong Kong

Welcome to McAllen, Texas, the most obese city the United States and also in the World.
Here, nearly one in two people is obese and almost half of the remaining population is overweight. That means 3 out of every 4 people outside are at risk of serious health problems and early death.
As I drive, I pass from one fast-food place after another, 10 in 2 minutes. This isn’t urban planning, this is a fast-food corridor.

This city is designed to fatten people until they are so heavy that they can’t leave their beds.  
People in McAllen order fast-food as often as three times a day and the trend isn’t slowing down. Locals here have a strong appetite for deep-fried, oily, creamy dishes. They eat almost three times more than their body needs every day.

Many people drink hundreds of liters of coke a year instead of water. As demand is so high, Coca Cola operates a massive distribution center here.

We’ve been out here for twenty minutes, and I haven’t seen a single person walking, jogging or biking. Sidewalks, crossings, and bike lanes hardly exist. 

I’ve been to malls all around the world but I’ve never seen this before. Local’s level of inactivity has reached a point where even walking through a store feels exhausting. And this is the case all across McAllen.

McAllen is a small, low-income Texas city near the Mexican border. With over 500 fast-food establishments for a population of 150,000, the fast-food density here is nearly six times the U.S. average. Even traditional dishes have also been turned into high-calorie meals loaded with cheese and fried ingredients.

America is known for its supersized portions, and in McAllen, many people try to finish their huge meals even when they’re full. Because of the influence of Mexican culture, wasting food is unacceptable here. 

Alongside these cultural habits, obesity here is also driven by urban planning that discourages movement. This city is built for cars.
Most parks lie in the southern and western parts of the city, often 20 minutes by car or nearly two hours on foot from residential neighborhoods.

With year-round heat and humidity near 32 °C, outdoor exercise is even harder. Staying active usually means paying for a gym. 

Today 3 out of 10 children in the United States are overweight or obese and nearly 60% are projected to develop obesity by age 35. Once fat cells form, they rarely disappear. They may shrink with weight loss, but they remain alive, constantly signaling the brain to feed them.

To understand why obesity is all around the city, I also spent a day eating like a typical local does in McAllen. In the video, I conducted an interview with one of the most obese people in the world as well.

24 Hours in the Most Obese City in America (The Ending Shocked Me)
