Lyrics to the first song Kelly and Brian would ever write together set the stage for the romantic waterloo that would become Darkbird. 

Kelly Barnes left Los Angeles after a broken marriage resulted in a broken band. Just prior to the move, she unexpectedly hit international success, singing a monster hit called, “Get Shaky” with DJ Ian Carey. While the track and a few others were financially significant to the ex-wife and waitress, the style of music was unfulfilling to Barnes. She began to dread performing the songs and eventually became fearfully depressed.

After a tragic house fire in NYC, Brian Cole opted for a fresh start. As his belongings smoldered in the winter snow, he decided to pack up what was left and head south in search of warmer days and better luck.

Ironically, while most go to LA or NYC to make their dreams come true, Brian and Kelly found each other on the musician page on Craigslist in Austin, TX.  While they had hoped to leave their pasts behind, inevitably, the heartbreaks found a place they call home in Darkbird.

The voice of our generation ! Soon to be iconic Miss Lady B ! From high energy house diva to torch song chanteuse she can sing everything . The emotion in her voice reminds me of the great Etta James . Simply flawless vocal artistry .

Simply stunning. A voice so beautifully, rich, powerful, strong, soulful and all woman. Love, love love this artist. I am overwhelmed by the sheer enormity, CinemaScape of her voice.  First heard her today on BBC radio London talking to Robert Elms… Her voice is ringing, pounding, reverberating in every ounce of me. For me, she is the artist of the year.  There have been some amazing female artists showcasing their abundance of talent this year…I thank them all for sharing their incredible work with us.

This LP is in HEAVY rotation. It gets played every day.  The best thing I have heard in years.

This is sublime . The sparse minimal arrangement really does it justice but as an emotional piece of art ,its amazing . Its like listening to an old classic. In redeems your faith that there are still artists who know music and make that connection to the spirit . Beautiful! 🙏💖🎶
