The Paper Kites

The Paper Kites created their sixth full-length LP, At the Roadhouse, somewhere in the Australian wilderness. The quintet-Sam Bentley [Lead Vocals, Guitars, Harmonica &amp; Mandolin], Christina Lacy [Backing Vocals, Pianos, Wurlitzer, Rhodes, Guitars], David Powys [Backing Vocals, Guitars, Banjo], Samuel Rasmussen [Bass], and Josh Bentley [Drums]-quietly holed up in a building once served as a supply store for local gold miners to record (during the day) and perform (at night) to crowds of locals who quickly and graciously became “regulars.” Through the month-long residency, whiskey glasses shook at the edge of the stage, and emotions stirred from the soul.

The ARIA nominated group have released six studio albums, with their most recent record &#39;At The Roadhouse&#39; being showcased in multiple sold out tours across North America, Europe and the UK.

16 years ago I was working in California 3000 miles from my east coast home. I met a girl who was hired to help out at the location I was in charge of setting up. We were working long hours so I bought everyone pizza to boost morale. We became friends and I finished my job and went back to the east coast. She went on to become the store manager. We kept in touch and almost a year later she came to visit me. We had a spark and a month later I went to visit her too. 3 months later she relocated and we moved in together. 16 years later, we are married and our 4th child just turned 8, and we can&#39;t remember what life was like before all this. Life is full of joy and sorrow, struggles and grace, big and small surprises. Sometimes I forget the many blessings I&#39;ve been given. Sometimes I feel like everything is connected and other times like I&#39;m floating in every random direction. But she has become my cornerstone, my foundation of which this life we built together rests on, and I couldn&#39;t imagine it any other way.

this is such a peaceful song, yet its never boring. every time i listen to it, its different. this song will forever and always be my favorite.

Isn’t it wonderful when you find a band you have never heard before and you find you totally love them? Sometimes you hear a song that you really like, so you check out the artist and end up being disappointed. You cannot say that about The Paper Kites. I came across this band here on U-tube and this was the first track I heard. This band was certainly worth investigating, so I listened to more of their songs and was far from disappointed. What a wonderful, wonderful band.  I like most genres of music but now in my 60s I like something a little mellow. The paper Kites have been described as having an ethereal and moody sound. Whatever it is, it’s beautiful to me. I’m currently into The Blue Nile and London Grammar for late night listening, how happy I am to have now found The Paper Kites to include among my favourites. Featherstone was the first track I listened to. Holy heck, I used to listen to this when I was like 14. Im 26 now and just rediscovered this and its bringing back nostalgia I’d thought I’d lost for ever.

my first time i was in new york city, i was newly sixteen and not sure about anything i wanted in life. i remember strolling for hours through the freezing air of brooklyn, down through williamsburg and over the bridge into manhattan. i had never been on the subway before and took the wrong train a couple of times. but when i realised i was headed in the wrong direction i would stay in my seat for a while and then get out at the next most lively station to do it all over again. it was a strange feeling to have nowhere to be and to watch all the people rushing past, each leading a different life. this song makes me feel the air and lights of the city.
