Luca Cataldo (Ka:lu) is a multidisciplinary artist that focuses his works on audiovisual installation, big projections, vjing, music production and djing.

He is the co-founder of the Italian organic, ethno, downtempo music label Hupupa Record and the visual labels Antica Proietteria // LEDDERIA3000 specialized on the use of lights and projections in site-specific contexts.

Creating his own original style, Ka:lu has signed collaboration with artists as Zuma Dyonis, Dibidabo, Kaob, Thommie G, UNAM, The Oddness and plus, releasing on different labels around the globe such as Baikal Nomads [RU] | MŎNɅDɅ [GERMANY] | Tehnika Molodeji [RU] | Sofa Beats [DENMARK] | Shango Rec [GREECE] | Trndmsk [GERMANY] | Cosmovision Rec [CANADA] | O’Tawa Rec [FRANCE] | WAYU Rec [USA] | Plurpura Records [MEXICO] and more.

2023 is the year of his new EPs forthcoming on LEVELDVA [RU], OTAWA [FRANCE] and Tehnika Molodeji [RU]; so stick around for a while new vibes are just around the corner!

Through his arts, as in music, he always try to express the believe into sounds as universal language, a way to get in meditation, a tool to understand where we are coming from, where we are, where we are going. Any of his creation always has a story behind that aims to deliver aesthetic journeys providing an immersive experiences for heterogeneous audiences.

Apparenza is an audiovisual installation in which the projected light is recognizable only in the presence of a background, a layer of confrontation shifted over the light itself.

It is a metaphor of the many connections, the mental constructions and interpretations that every day you live, unconsciously.

A key to the limits of appearances and appearing in a world increasingly dominated by superficiality, ephemeral and constructed.
The light follows this plot, it travels in all directions, filling and emptying, thus allowing you to change your point of view and look in a new way what lies beyond.

I am the light. The cables are the world. The rest is what we prefer to observe.

⭕  It is time to share the promo of my secret project I have been building in my workshop during the lockdown. Few friends had already the chance to experience it but now It seems the moment to open it to more audience. ⚡ It is a modular live performance than can be enjoyable chilling on a sofà 🛋  or hanging around the space. 

...Stillness and non doing are the states from which I have moved from, with the intention of exploring change and transformation even if nothing is really happening. So you relax & trust, following an inward journey through music, lights, projections, emotions and sensations. 

🍷  If you are traveling center Italy you can come to see the performance, I'll be more than glad to welcome you in this trippy playground. Or if you are interested to present somewhere I will be more than happy to collaborate and to find the right way to move it around!

LEGAME
The idea for this project starts from the observation of a symbiosis present in nature between the plant and animal world; the cecide, commonly called "galla",  is a malformation of the nature of growths, a kind of plant tumor, that forms on the leaves, on the branches, on the trunk and roots of plants caused by insects, mites or fungi to induce the formation of an incubator where the latter entrust their fate for the new life.

Through the work I want to express the harmony, an interaction between two apparently separate worlds but with a deep bond, an invisible harmony, a knowledge developed over time; a dimension of dialogue expressed with a visual language that produces spectacular protuberances with the most varied shapes and colors. In this subtle relationship the human world appears to be alien to it, tied to a simple judgment in the cause and effect that is established between these two worlds; a man who feels separate, far from imagining the existence of a larger design made up of continuous interdependence between living beings through which nature manifests itself.

“Because the processes of nature make no sense, they only have an inexorable course that we can interrupt, but without being able to avoid the backlash of nature. In fact, there are two subjectivities in us. One that says “I”, my projects, my expectations, my vision of the world full of meaning, and one that says “nature” and interests of the species, for which the fate of the self, his ideas, its scenarios are not of the slightest importance. " (Galimberti)

It is a luminous audio video installation that aims to bring attention to the extreme contrasts that our society is going through; a three-dimensional heart projected on the central circle, minimal and without color but pulsating, which governs the movement of light and the pulsation of sound.

An animation of the visual and sound space that invites a broader vision of the human "dimension" and at the same time an observation of everyone's interior, the "heart", the engine that gives life to each individual and allows our functioning on different vital levels. The heart, a symbol of union and non-division, as a common element of humanity.

An invitation to observe and explore a variety of points of view that the viewer can discover by moving inside and outside the installation. Not being anywhere but being everywhere at the same time.
