Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Jess Glynne made her early-2010s breakthrough in the UK as the voice of chart-topping tracks &quot;My Love&quot; with Route 94 and &quot;Rather Be&quot; with Clean Bandit. 
 
Born and raised in North London, Glynne first signed to Atlantic Records in 2013. From there, she contributed vocals to a number of key tracks including Route 94&#39;s &quot;My Love&quot; which topped the charts in the UK before finding the ears of Clean Bandit, who recruited Glynne for 2014&#39;s &quot;Rather Be&quot; which became a global smash and took home a Grammy for Best Dance Recording.
 
Following further hits &quot;Right Here&quot; (with Gorgon City), &quot;Real Love&quot; (with Clean Bandit) and &quot;Not Letting Go&quot;(with Tinie Tempah), Jess&#39; debut album I Cry When I Laugh followed in August 2015. Buoyed by her success on the singles charts, I Cry When I Laugh debuted at number one on the UK albums chart. The album led to an extensive touring schedule, which wrapped up in late 2016, only for Glynne to dive back into the studio at the start of 2017. 
 
After weeks spent writing in LA, she retreated to the countryside for additional recording sessions alongside a team of her closest collaborators. She wrote the majority of the record during that time, including the singles &quot;These Days&quot; with Rudimental, Macklemore &amp; Dan Caplen and &quot;I&#39;ll Be There&quot; which became her seventh number one. The album, Always in Between arrived in October 2018 and topped the UK charts. She then paired with Jax Jones for the single &quot;One Touch&quot; in May of 2019.

Jess Glynne made history by becoming the first British female solo artist to score 7 number ones on the UK Singles Chart – among them 'I'll Be There’, 'Hold My Hand' and 'Don't Be So Hard on Yourself'. Her two previous Platinum selling albums have both become Number 1 records & she collected three Ivor Novello nominations, won a Grammy & racked up nine Brit Award nominations & 1.2 billion streams.
 
But when Glynne says "everything has changed", she isn't exaggerating.  The singer-songwriter brought in fresh management & switched record label to EMI, relocating to Los Angeles for much of 2022 & honing a new, more vulnerable songwriting style with producers including Greg Kurstin, Emile Haynie, Malay, and BOOTS. 
 
They added to a tight, five-member writing team: herself, longtime collaborators Knox Brown & Jin Jin, plus grime musician Wretch-32 & Grammy-nominated producer P2J and she took songwriting inspiration from the likes of Joni Mitchell, Amy Winehouse, Prince & more.

Jess Glynne - Don't Be So Hard On Yourself [Official Video]

When I wrote this song I was fighting with myself, trying to understand why I was so broken, why I had been left and was hurting so badly, why I felt like I had lost something that I would never have again and why I felt like it was all my fault. I felt like I was never going to be happy again. I signed my record deal and my dreams were coming true but the person I loved wasn't there and it didn't hide the fact that my soul was unbalanced. 

I wrote this song when I was angry and nothing felt right. I didn't know how to get past the emptiness I was feeling. Once I wrote it, I put it to bed and didn't listen to it for months and months and I slowly started to take on my life with a different perspective. My friend said to me give yourself space and time and it's true, that's all I needed. I was reminded of who I was as a person by someone who cared so much and wouldn't let me break. I was given an opportunity to make an album and have a career in doing what I love, which is something I had worked so hard for, for so many years, and I wasn't going to let a broken heart defeat me. Hope through heartbreak was my new perspective on life. I re-visited this song and edited it. I changed it from one about me feeling sorry for myself and a person who didn't even deserve that much from me, to one about the person who caught me before I hit the ground and made me believe in myself again. This song was written to you. Not to the person who broke me in so many ways but the person who helped save me from drowning in something that wasn't worth drowning in. This song is now about being grateful and taking advice from the people who care, and who are there for you when you are in need. So thank you. 

I wanted to share this version of the video because this is all this song really needed to show. I was naked and alone in a room with a camera, bare, fragile and empty. There was a time when I was all of this and couldn't have felt any worse in myself. When I stood there and sang this song on the day we made the video, stripped of everything, I was reminded of all that I had gone through. I couldn't have been prouder of how far I have come and I couldn't have been more grateful for the people surrounding me in my life. Jo'lene had this idea for Take Me Home and it couldn't be more perfect, I can normally picture how I want things to go for my videos but for this one I couldn't and she could. Both Jo'lene and Declan made this video and took full creative control of something that I was incapable of envisioning because it was so personal. I can't thank you both enough for something that represents both me and my song so superbly. To the person who told me time would heal me, this song is for you.
