While their music can most certainly be described as Post-Punk, members pull their influence from all different genres of music — helping them to bring an eclectic sound that is both catchy and heavy.  
In December 2015, Pleasure Venom released their debut EP entitled Hunt. It includes heavy riffs, dance-y melodies and strong vocals. Each song focuses on Campbell&#39;s take on love, sex, resentment and the absurdity of it all treating audiences to a fierce femme-punk-rock thunder, which encapsulates their identity as a band. 
In December 2017, the band released their second EP entitled Seize which is produced by Kana Harris of Xetas notoriety.  The singers directorial debut “Seize” (released March 2018) and “These Days” (released June 2018) were both picked up to acclaim by AfroPunk. In July 2018, AfroPunk named Pleasure Venom as one of the Top 8 New Punk Bands on the Planet. 
The bands latest EP, Pleasure Venom was released in November 2018. The self titled EP is self produced by Pleasure Venom, Co-Produced and Engineered by Elliot Frazier of Ringo Deathstarr notoriety. In October of 2018, Campbell directed another video for their first single &#34;Deth&#34; which was released January 2019. May 2019, the band opened select dates for Garbage with a 2019 focus on touring and hitting the road with a UK tour. In 2020 the band began an album. In 2021, the first single &#34;FASCIST&#34;  was released in January of 2021 with a premiere on AfroPunk of the song and lyric video. Stay tuned for more!

The band caught the attention of Shirley Manson of Garbage, and they joined Garbage’s US tour in early Summer 2019 and toured the UK that fall. They opened for Against Me! in late 2019. After regrouping in 2020, the band entered 2021 with a bang, releasing two singles and playing Austin's LEVITATION. 2022 has seen the band opening for the Spits and playing the Linda Perry EqualizeHER and Punk Black showcases during SXSW Festival, releasing a new single, opening for Bikini Kill, and featuring on the “Queer as Folk” reboot. I'm someone who lives with PTSD, and it can be really hard for me to let go of trauma. I have to work on moving past events which can be really intense and haunt me for quite a long time or even just keep me up at night when sleep is pretty fucking important. It creeps in unexpectedly and I can be sent right fuckin' back to my own personal hell and be stuck there emotionally. I also have a VERY fun "self-destruct mode" lurking in the wings of my brain that I try my damndest to keep at bay. 
 
Survivors understand that sometimes there is a fucked comfort in holding onto trauma because at least you know it's real but simultaneously it can be hard to let go. We have to go through the stages of anger and guilt as we work toward acceptance and forgiveness of traumatic events of the past. There comes a point when you just have to let shit go and decide to really move past events or people that hold you back or who are not fully in your corner, wanting you to succeed and do well. We must still walk through this world and interact with it, holding both the world and ourselves accountable. Not overthink or "cling" on to that "stinging" from feeling physical or emotional abuse when we were burned, betrayed, or misunderstood. Because after so long, what's the benefit? 
 
The past is just that - past. Sever those ties from people, or things, or whatever it is in your mind that may be holding you back or keeping you stuck.
 
"Severed Ties" will be on our forthcoming LP, and will also be released on vinyl in May 2022 for the Austin Music Foundation's compilation album, ATX Gen Next: Adventures In Person.

ABOUT “We Get What You Deserve“:
White Supremacy, Racism and Police Brutality are a festering sore in America. Swept under the rug for many, many years, these issues finally came to a head and erupted in 2020. In ‘We Get What You Deserve,’ Pleasure Venom visually and sonically illustrates this eruption in a fast-paced montage of incendiary imagery overlaid by lead singer Audrey Campbell’s imploring shrieks to her congregation from her stage, her podium, her throne.

Thomas (Director/PV Drummer) on “Behind “Their Eyes”
When we decided to choose “Behind Their Eyes” to be the next single from our upcoming LP, REBIRTH/RETURN, I just felt the music speaks for itself. Both lyrically and thematically. This, being my first-time solo directing and shooting a video vs co-directing the “Hive” music video with bandmate and partner Audrey Campbell, I approached it as an editor, focused more on design than storytelling. I’ll let the music and performance do that for me. I decided to shoot this music video on my iPhone 11 and experiment with DIY because have watched so many legit very good videos made on a phone and wanted to challenge myself and the band as well. My good friend and roommate Dan Chavez happens to be a great painter, musician, and artist and his art pieces inspired a lot of the color choices, all around our home. It was easy to create a scene where art and the artists could be blended into one mesh of eye candy to accentuate the song and not distract from it.

I just wanted to challenge what an artist can do with an iPhone honestly. I’ve had the great experience of editing most of Pleasure Venom’s music videos (“Seize” 2017, “These Days” 2018, “Deth” 2019, and “Hive”2019, the latter of which I co-directed with PV vocalist, Audrey Campbell.) 

I simply relied on my editing instincts to guide what type of footage I wanted to shoot to make my idea for this music video work. 

With that in mind, I loaded visually, each shot with as much art as I could and used all-natural daylight as the main light source. Each band member got their own specific setup/background around our home and framing that would allow me to blend the clips in whatever chaotic fashion I wanted. Directing bandmates Audrey, Chase, and Jordan was a blast. It felt like a hang session with trusted friends which made for a fun and energetic performance from everyone involved! With all that said, we hope you enjoy watching this music video as much as we enjoyed filming it!

ABOUT "Deth":
The soul of punk is cognitive dissonance: “the world is burning, so we might as well roast some marshmallows on that shit.” Enter Pleasure Venom, a straight up punk rock band from Austin, TX that delights in pushing both extremes to their, well, extreme. Their latest single, “Deth,” was written after the death of Tamir Rice. It’s a plea for life, as singer Audrey Campbell explains:

“We turn on the TV or read the news and wonder if people have just become numb to it all, to allow this to continue: ‘Can you feel at all?’ Another black man gunned down. The entire Trump presidency and their agenda. We all feel a bit helpless. This song is our way to try to push through it all. To have some semblance of solidarity.”

The video takes that feeling of helplessness and flips it into a celebration of life. Set in a sex shop, Campbell and friends throw a party to the consternation of the white store manager. It’s effervescent in all the ways that the song itself is raging. It’s a party against hopelessness. For Pleasure Venom, it’s a manifesto:

“Get a smoothie, play in a sex shop, hang and have fun with friends, then do a show. An idyllic day in the life as we want to see it. Young people, black people, queer people, and people of color, or anyone who doesn’t fit the mold, should be able to have frivolous fun without fear of something really bad happening. We are black, women, queer, and non-binary people enjoying life – no need to end in bloodshed or imprisonment when we have no intent to harm a soul.” - AFROPUNK

ABOUT "These Days":
Pleasure Venom frontwoman Audrey Campbell is known as much for her singing as for her music videos, so it’s no surprise that the latest single from the band is ambitious as all getout. It’s a dual format video for “These Days,” first as a traditional video and second in 360 degree stereoscopic VR. The traditional format finds the band performing in an empty field with gas cans burning, interspersed with riot footage and vintage Soul Train dance clips. It’s a jarring series of contrasts, that heightens the tension at the heart of Pleasure Venom’s music. Flash cuts highlight the tension between celebration and rage.

The VR version is a profound technical achievement, though it scales back the ambitious imagery and editing by nature of the format. With a camera placed in the middle of the field, band members swirl around you. You control the camera as Campbell moves throughout the rest of the band. It’s visceral in a different way than the heightened editing of the traditional version; instead of being presented with a series of radical contrasts, you’re in charge of your experience. Though I wasn’t able to view it on a VR device (the only phones I will use are made by Nokia, are indestructible, and come with snake. End of story.), even on a laptop screen there’s something unexpectedly exciting about playing the role of camera person in a video. It’s immersive in a way that’s entirely unique. 

For Audrey Campbell, those contrasts are the heart of the song: “When I wrote the song, I was feeling very great and very shit at the same time. I wanted to play with that paranoiac state visually and see what happened. At the time I was falling for someone, which always feels amazing, yet I was also coming out of a pretty dark time and situation. I consider it a study on light and dark, sex and death. Fire and more fire. Beautiful and ugly shit. The contrast of isolating ourselves and putting on your finest coat to dance on a car and just let loose and push through the bullshit, but the feeling of sugarcoating things should be evident. It’s a lot more colorful and fun to look at than anything I’ve done so far, yet my politics always tend to seep through. I’m hoping the tiki torch in the beginning will not go over everyone’s heads. “It’s been a long fucking four years, fam. But for those of us who have dedicated our lives to fighting fascism, we know that this wasn’t an aberration, and even Impeachment 2: Electric Boogaloo isn’t the end. On their latest, Pleasure Venom peel back the veneer of American civility to reveal the fascist rot beneath. Singer Audrey Campbell says the kernel of the song started with the realization that “Americans, including myself, being sent back to work in a pandemic because rich people needed shit like haircuts and brunch was pretty fucking fascist. It wasn’t until I finished the lyrics that I realized why I had even put pen to paper. I had fucking snapped.”

The song took shape from there building over a year of simmering tension, finally exploding with the chaos of the past week. “As I write this, racism still runs rampant in America. Sharing on your social feeds because it’s trendy is not enough to end a systemic, generational problem. Even a pandemic cannot stop the rampant racism, classism, bigotry and homophobia when it should be a time to come together against these fascist ideals and build something new. There were Black lives lost, particularly Black trans people murdered last year that have resulted in no arrest, conviction, or justice for anyone. And now the nation’s capitol has been stormed by fascist pawns. We wrote this song almost a year ago, so don’t tell me no one else saw this coming.”

Campbell continues. “We saw the stark contrast between the unchecked insurgence and the BLM protests, where the National Guard were called and buses were ready to sweep up anyone present. Fascism and racism are real, and now the entire world knows – America has truly revealed itself. We watched bigoted American Police take selfies and escort racists, fascists, and terrorrists in and out of the Capitol building on January 6th. We saw how tolerant they were to them. Where was that tolerance during BLM protests?

So now what? Do you just share to Instagram and social feeds? Trust me, that’s simply not enough. We have to start in how we treat the people in our own personal Black and Brown communities. We need to take action in small but impactful ways. Find your lane and get into it – but if you are not actively combating racism some way in your daily life, you are part of the problem. This movement has to move away from performative displays of solidarity. Put the pressure on, and give ‘em hell. Keep up the energy. Most of all, stay informed, and wear a goddamn mask, because we would like to tour again!” - AFROPUNK

ABOUT Pleasure Venom:
"Pleasure Venom debuted in October of 2014 at a Halloween house party in Austin, TX. After front-woman Audrey Campbell moved to Austin and began singing back-up and playing trumpet in Danny Price & The Heist, she soon met Trevor Mason (bass). She grew tired of joining other projects and decided to pursue a solo project with the help of Mason under the moniker ‘A Band Named Audrey’. A focus on herself collaborating with other musicians. A band as a collective that revolves, evolves and a train that stops for no one. Freeing herself up to different sounds. Band vs solo project and everything in between. It is, it is not. 
Along the way, Campbell met Thomas Valles (drums), Anna Charlock (guitar, back-up vocals), Austin Reynolds (guitar) and Harrison Pennock (guitar/bass). 
While their music can most certainly be described as Post-Punk, members pull their influence from all different genres of music — helping them to bring an eclectic sound that is both catchy and heavy."
