We went in search of ourselves as the band that we have somehow always been. Just for the fun of it we jammed and learned some old songs. Before long we started the mysterious process of building new songs. A beautiful bit of chemistry meddling that had befriended us hundreds of times along the way. Once we found that slip stream of sound and vision, we just kept mining. With time turned into an elastic waist band of oversized underwear, we had no reason to stop writing and rocking. It felt like a dream. When all was said and done, our moody love for each other and the magic of music had gifted us with more songs than we knew what to do with. Well we figured it out. 2 double albums released back to back. The second of which is easily as meaningful as the first or should that be reversed. &#39;Return of the Dream Canteen&#39; is everything we are and ever dreamed of being. It’s packed. Made with the blood of our hearts, yours truly, the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

When i was a kid, we were too broke to own any sort of gaming device. Best things we had were a radio and a TV. Yet my eyes always opened at the sight of nintendos, PS1s, xbox, etc. when i saw this song pop up, me and my brother would immediately pretend that we had controllers and we were playing this game. Having our own characters and what not... Was the best times of my life back then. EDIT: firstly, i would like to thank you all for reading my story, as well as sharing your own. Ive read each comment and have felt the unconditional love from all you strangers. i just lost my brother to a car accident yesterday. It hurts. For those who are wondering, this song refers to one of the band members, Hillel Slovak who died of a heroin overdose on June 25, 1988. This song talks about his struggles from this addiction. The name of the song, “Otherside” is also used to say “afterlife”. Although it is sung by Anthony Kiedis, it is supposed to be Slovak’s voice and his perspective towards the situation. This song talks about how Slovak knows how much the drug has affected him and how he must kill himself to end his addiction. This song also shows his struggles to end this addiction by saying, “I yell and tell it (drugs) that it’s not my friend; I tear it down tear it down, and then it’s born again.” His constant struggle is also shown in the music video which shows a man waking up and then finding himself in the same position at the end of the video which means that it is a cycle that never changes and that never will change. The video also shows his struggles by having a scene where the man (Slovak) is fighting against his shadow which shows that he was initially fighting with himself due to the addiction. In general, this song is not only showing people Slovak’s struggles but also showing many other people’s struggles with the same problem.

This song reminds me of when I was a child, sitting in the back of my dad’s car as he drove and played this in the CD player. I remember looking out the window, it was a summer evening and the golden light was beginning to filter through the delicate light blue of the sky. So whenever I hear this song, I can always picture it in my head and get that magical nostalgic feeling.
