As a recording artist, the Nigerian multihyphenate is the voice behind afropop hits “Pour Me Water,” “Skin Tight” (featuring Efya) and “Leg Over,” as well as groundbreaking collaborations with the likes of Beyoncé, Bad Bunny and J Balvin. A serial entrepreneur, he’s also the founder of emPawa Africa, a talent incubator program which funds and mentors emerging African artists, and the digital music aggregator emPawa Distribution — initiatives hailed by CNN, Rolling Stone, Billboard and Forbes for their forward-thinking approach.

Music superstar, business visionary and international nomad Mr Eazi invites listeners to join him in South Africa on Chop Life, Vol. 1: Mzansi Chronicles the debut release from his new pan-African music group, ChopLife SoundSystem.

Recorded between Cape Town and Johannesburg in 2022 and 2023, the 14-track mixtape is a deep dive into amapiano, the dance music sound that has exploded out of South Africa to become one of the world’s most thrilling and buzzed-about new music genres. Guests on the project include South African music stars Moonchild Sanelly, Focalistic, Ami Faku and Major League Djz as well as a massive slate of emerging talent.

Choplife Vol. 1: Mzansi Chronicles is a formal introduction to ChopLife SoundSystem, the Nigerian-born Mr Eazi’s new music lifestyle project, which takes its name from West African pidgin slang meaning “enjoy life,” along with the traditional soundsystems that are the backbone of dancehall music culture.

Mr Eazi is the primary vocalist on ChopLife recordings, and also serves as its MC — or Minister of Enjoyment— at live events, where he’s joined by resident selector DJ Edu (of BBC Radio fame), along with guest artists and DJs. “I’m going back to where I started from, when I was hosting the biggest parties at uni,” Mr Eazi says of this master of ceremonies role. “That’s how I started singing.”

Recorded between Ouidah and Cotonou, Benin; Kigali, Rwanda; Accra and Kokrobite, Ghana; Lagos, Nigeria; London; Los Angeles; and New York City, The Evil Genius features some of Mr Eazi’s most personal work, as he dives deeply into subjects like love, betrayal, loneliness, and family, expressed through three distinctive acts.
Expanding upon Banku Music, Mr Eazi’s distinctive spin on contemporary afropop, the project seamlessly pulls together an eclectic range of styles and influences across its 16 tracks, from Ghanaian highlife to grime to gospel, to create an instant, pan-African classic. 

Guest features on the project include Angelique Kidjo (Benin), Efya (Ghana), Whoisakin (Nigeria) and three-time Grammy winners Soweto Gospel Choir (South Africa), who add a heavenly choral arrangement to the recent single, “Exit.” 
Tekno, the Nigerian afrobeats star whose rise in the mid 2010s corresponded with Mr Eazi’s own, appears on “Jamboree” (Watch visualizer HERE), a return to the ‘pon pon’ sound which defined Afrobeats at the time when the two were first emerging. The Nigerian music star Joeboy, who first Mr Eazi discovered and signed to emPawa Africa in 2018, reconnects with his mentor on the playful “Zuzulakate,” reminding listeners of their impeccable chemistry. 

Producers who contributed to The Evil Genius include Kel-P (Nigeria), Knucks (U.K.), Michael Brun (Haiti), Andre Vibez (Nigeria), Yung Willis (Nigeria), Nonso Amadi (Nigeria/Canada), KillBeatz (Ghana), M.O.G Beatz (Ghana), E Kelly (Nigeria), Type A (Nigeria), Stikmatik (U.K.), Phantom (Nigeria), Venna (U.K.), KDream (Nigeria) and Mr Eazi himself. 

In a first-of-its-kind fusion of African music and art, Mr Eazi commissioned visual artists from across the continent to create a unique, physical art piece to represent each of the album’s 16 tracks. While traveling the continent completing the album, Mr Eazi personally handpicked 13 artists, representing eight African countries, adding art curator and patron to his already extensive resume of pursuits. The result is a unique and ambitious pan-African multimedia project that has earned notice from art-world figures like Marina Abramović, and media including ARTNews and The Guardian.

Afropop superstar MR EAZI teams with talent from his emPawa Africa mentorship program to drop One Day You Will Understand,  a set of melodic, emotive Afrocentric tunes. The four-track EP, MR EAZI’s first new project since 2018’s acclaimed Life is Eazi, Vol. 2 - Lagos To London, features collaborations with MIKEL, an alum of last year’s inaugural #emPawa100 class, who co-wrote the lead single “I No Give Up On You”; C NATTY, of emPawa’s freshly minted #emPawa30 class, who appears on “Baby This Your Body Na Gòbe Fine Fine Sweet Òkpéke”; and Ghanaian highlife star KING PROMISE, a client of emPawa’s new digital distribution arm, who adds his dulcet tones to the opening track “Baby I’m Jealous,” produced by fellow Ghanaian and emPawa producer, GUILTYBEATZ. 

To emphasize the group effort, Eazi is releasing the project not under his own name but as EMPAWA AFRICA & MR EAZI. In addition to GUILTYBEATZ — who recently issued his debut EP, Different, via Banku Music/emPawa Africa — the project features production from an all-star team of Africa’s top producers including BLAQ JERZEE, NONSO AMADI, and LEGENDURY BEATZ.
